The Holidays (Increasing Sick Leave) Amendment Bill received royal assent on 24 May 2021. This means, two months to this date, on 24 July 2021, the sick leave entitlement for employees increases from five days to 10 days.

What does this change mean?

  • Current employees will receive 10 sick leave days when they reach their next sick leave entitlement anniversary after 24 July 2021;

  • New employees employed on or after 24 July 2021 will receive 10 sick leave days after six months of continuous employment;

Unused sick leave accumulation will remain at a maximum of 20 days.
