  • Andrew Johnstone
    Andrew Johnstone DIRECTOR

    Andrew has worked in the commercial and corporate sectors for over 20 years in New Zealand and overseas, gaining experience as a finance manager, financial controller and CFO. Andrew has also managed a variety of commercial businesses and fully understands what being a business owner entails. Andrew is a member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, a member of Advisory Boards NZ and provides hands-on proactive business advisory services to a wide range of commercial clients.

  • Cath Booth
    Cath Booth DIRECTOR

    Cath was Born and bred in Waimate, South Canterbury, where she grew up on a sheep and beef farm. Cath graduated from Canterbury University in 1999 and qualified as a CA in 2001. Over the years Cath has worked in a various roles – including management and financial accounting roles in the private commercial sector. Much of this experience was gained in commercial roles however she now focuses on the Agricultural / Dairy sector.

    Nicky Coleman Associate Director

    Nicky has over 10 years’ experience in accounting industry and enjoys the customer relationship side of her position. Nicky and her husband operate their own business in the agricultural sector, providing Nicky with hands on experience and knowledge of the “nuts and bolts” of the challenges of being a business owner. Nicky studied at Lincoln University to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce and Management, and is a Chartered Accountant with the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants.

  • Courtenay Hamel
    Courtenay Hamel Accountant

    Courtenay joined the Solve team having successfully obtained her Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Otago in 2014. A local South Cantabrian and ex Roncalli College student she has an obvious focus of “doing things once and doing them right”. Courtenay is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and became a Chartered Accountant in 2018.

  • Karen Johnston
    Karen Johnston Client Manager

    Karen is a true blue ‘Timaruvian’ and has a long association within the accounting sector. Married to Paul, Karen has worked alongside Paul as an Accountant and Practice Manager before merging with Solve. She has a wealth of local knowledge and is passionate about business success and the changing business environments. Karen has been a member with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand since 1997. Karen enjoys biking, walking and travelling to various parts of NZ and the world visiting her three daughters.

  • C G Tang
    C G Tang Client Manager

    CG was educated and graduated with BA (Hons) in Accounting (UK). She commenced her professional career in the auditing, then progressed into accounting. She has 33 years of valuable experience in both industries. Her current role as client manager involves her working with a range of clients with different sized business and across a number of industries. She works alongside her clients in providing accounting and taxation support, to assist them achieve the best outcome in their accounting, taxation and statutory compliance obligations. CG values the interaction with her clients. The relationship and trust which has developed over the years is a privilege which motivates her to maintain the highest of standards.

  • Julia Burgess
    Julia Burgess Client Manager

    Timaru born and bred Julia has had over 28 years’ experience within the accounting industry and enjoys the challenges of working with a wide variety clients including the rural sector. Julia has been an Accounting Technician with CAANZ since May 2009. Julia studied at Ara Institute to obtain her Diploma in Business and currently studying at Massey University towards a Bachelor in Accountancy.

  • Megan Prue
    Megan Prue Business Advisory Manager

    Megan was born and bred in South Canterbury and with her husband operates a building company in the Waimate District. Megan has been working in the accounting industry for over 14 years and has always relished helping clients answer those difficult questions or issues. Megan completed both a Diploma in Accounting and a Diploma of Business, at the local Aoraki Polytechnic, and now focuses on business ACC issues and all operations management areas.

  • Lucy Fennessy
    Lucy Fennessy Business Advisory Manager

    Lucy grew up on her family farm near Pleasant Point, and has over ten years’ experience within the accounting industry, having done accountancy work in Dunedin and Timaru, as well as in the United Kingdom. Lucy studied at Otago University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, and she qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2008.

  • Tamara Young
    Tamara Young Accountant

    After falling into the Accounting field back in 2011, Tamara has studied at Ara Institute towards the Diploma in Business and enjoys the compliance side of accounting – “Doting the I’s and Crossing the T’s”. With a background in event planning and design, she also enjoys the challenge of organising the office’s varied social events.

  • Deahna Frank
    Deahna Frank Accountant

    Born and bred in Taranaki, Deahna left school to join the army and moved to Taupo a couple of years later where she found a passion for accounting in 2007. After a few years farming in Canterbury, Deahna and her family decided to move back to Fairlie and now she works remotely from Fairlie, working from home where she can juggle work and looking after her son. Deahna especially enjoys farm accounting and relates well to farming clients given her own experiences.

  • Jess Hampton
    Jess Hampton Accountant

    Jess was born and raised in Temuka, and has a wide range of accounting experience in New Zealand and overseas, in both public practice and the private commercial sector. Jess studied at the University of Otago, where she graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2004. Jess loves the variety and challenges that come from working with a diverse client base.

  • Rebecca Shackleton
    Rebecca Shackleton Accountant

    Rebecca has joined Solve after working with the Paul Johnston team for a year. Completing high school in Timaru, Rebecca left and travelled abroad then lived in the United Kingdom for 4 years. Returning home, Rebecca worked in various industries including an administrative role in Livestock Brokering and also learnt to Picture Frame in the family business. Seeking a new challenge, Rebecca made the transition to the Accounting world and is thoroughly enjoying collaborating with the Solve team.

  • Rowena Maynard
    Rowena Maynard Accountant

    Rowena came to Solve with over 12 years’ experience within the accounting industry, where she enjoys dealing with her commercial property and business clients. With a fantastic eye for detail (an important asset to have in this industry) Rowena has also been known to be the team task master when she and fellow accountants have tight deadlines to meet. Don’t let her quiet demeanour fool you – she loves nothing better than a challenge.

  • Sue McConway
    Sue McConway Accountant

    Originally from Blenheim, Sue moved to Waihaorunga, 35km west of Waimate,  in 2000 with her husband Erin and children, Rachel & Matt, where they own and run a sheep and beef farm. Sue has a Diploma in Rural Secretarial Practice from Lincoln University, and brings vast amount of experience with her, having worked for over 20 years in various chartered accounting firms and small business administration roles.

  • Suzy Herrick
    Suzy Herrick Accountant

    Suzy has had 29 years’ experience in a variety of accounting and commercial industries in a variety of roles in Administration and Accounting.  Suzy has completed a Diploma in Accounting & and Diploma in Business Management and has enjoy working with clients in the farming sector over the last three years. With growing up in a farming community on the West Coast, Suzy is a keen tramper, always looking for the next challenge.

  • Vikas Sharma
    Vikas Sharma Accountant

    Vikas joined Paul Johnston’s team in September 2015 as a new graduate and became a Chartered Accountant in 2018. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from India and since moving to NZ in 2013, he has furthered his studies with a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) from Waikato Institute of Technology.

  • Vikki Penney
    Vikki Penney Accountant

    Vikki completed both a Diploma in Accounting and a Diploma of Business, at the local Aoraki Polytechnic and is studying part time towards a degree. She has worked in Government agencies, Banks and the Education sector, in administration and finance roles. Vikki started working for Paul Johnston in June 2017 and is enjoying being part of the the Solve team.

  • Ethan Robinson
    Ethan Robinson ACCOUNTANT

    Ethan joined the team in February 2018 as a graduate after spending three years in Christchurch completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at UC. Coming back to his home town, he is looking forward to the challenges involved with the job, gaining practical industry knowledge and skills, and working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. Ethan enjoys playing football, tennis and other sports outside of work.

  • Jim Scott
    Jim Scott Business Support

    Having been raised in rural South Canterbury, Jim has been involved in the accounting industry for over 35 years. During that time Jim has focused primarily on Southland and South Canterbury, and has witnessed and adapted to to the ever changing needs of businesses and business owners, and even today particularly enjoys dealing with clients. Jim has a great knowledge and understanding of the needs of local businesses, both rural and urban.

  • Joanna van Sprang
    Joanna van Sprang Business Support

    Joanna joined Solve as a Business Support Officer, having worked with many of the Solve team previously. Her administrative role includes co-ordinating statutory requirements for companies and trusts, preparing monthly billing, debtor control, and general administration. Joanna has many years of administrative experience in a wide range of industries, including food manufacturing and recruitment.

  • Laura Yates
    Laura Yates Business Support

    Laura was born and bred in South Canterbury. After attending Roncalli College she trained to be a Beauty Therapist and worked in the industry for four years. Laura joined the Solve Team as a Receptionist at the start of 2017 and will work towards completing some accounting papers.

  • Christine Mold
    Christine Mold Business Support

    Christine is born and bred in Timaru. She has worked in varied industries over the years, a family business partnership, early childhood education, and more recently travel and tourism. She has considerable experience working “front line” in customer service which she enjoys. Christine always strives to do her best and give everyone a friendly welcome and good experience. Her interests are largely in the great outdoors of our own beautiful country, tramping and biking.
